Culver City parking meter rates double

Culver City Parking Meter 225After a unanimous vote by the Culver City Council, all 1,489 parking meters will double their rates citywide.

The current rate of 50 cents for an hour of parking brings Culver City approximately $600,000 a year.

With the projected budget shortfall in Culver City’s budget next year, the increase to a dollar per hour is estimated to generate $1.08 million dollars.

In addition to increasing the revenues, the city’s intention is to put more cars into parking structures, leading to more turnover street parking.

I don’t think raising the meter rates will change where people park unless they are minimum wage earners having to feed meters on their work shifts.
